China issued an annual report of the global ecosystem and environment in 2014 monitored by remote sensing recently. The report published by the Ministry of Science and Technology added the monitoring of wetlands into its content for the first time and assessed the ecosystem of 100 important wetlands across the world.

According to the monitoring report, most of these wetlands have been maintained well, with a size reduction of less than one percent in 2013, compared with that in 2001.

Most wetlands in China have been protected well, but some are facing serious situation. For example, the wetland of Nanwenghe Nature Reserve in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province reduced 8,000 hectares for the 12 years, accounting for 3.5 percent of its total size. And, the size of Hulun Lake, also named as Dalai Lake, reduced more than 40,000 hectares, about five percent of its total size.

Mr. Chen Kelin, the director of Wetlands International-China participated the report writing and served as advanced wetland expert.
